Introducing the Reclaimed Room at Song Hotel Sydney
Created in collaboration with DIY and upcycling designer Jaharn Quinn, Song Hotel’s new theme room is less about a traditional makeover and more about a new way of thinking
At Song Hotel Sydney, a new kind of hotel room is rethinking how hospitality spaces are designed and experienced.
Created in collaboration with DIY and upcycling designer Jaharn Quinn, Song Hotel’s new theme room The Reclaimed Room is less about a traditional hotel room makeover and more about a new way of thinking. It’s a space that shows good design doesn’t need to start from scratch and that a more considered approach can feel just as refreshed and elevated.
With more than 25 years of experience in upcycling and hands-on design, Quinn created The Reclaimed Room at Song Hotel in April 2026, reimagining existing pieces, introducing second-hand finds, and layering in upcycling details to create a space that feels warm, inviting, and modern.

“I wanted the room to feel like a long exhale; grounded, calm and easy to settle into after a busy day in the city,” says Quinn.
“It was also an opportunity to show how DIY and upcycling can go beyond the home and into commercial spaces. It’s something I saw a lot of on a recent trip to Europe, and I think it’s where hospitality should be heading, creating spaces that feel more considered and resourceful.”
The design behind The Reclaimed Room is simple and measured, with each element chosen with purpose. A reworked armchair becomes a focal point through vibrant red fabric paint, bedside tables are refreshed with simple but striking DIY techniques, and vintage pieces sit seamlessly alongside original elements of the room. Nothing feels over-styled and the space invites guests to slow down and connect with the story behind each detail, as well as the purpose behind Song Hotel.
For Song Hotel, the collaboration is a natural extension of its broader commitment. As Australia’s first profit-for-purpose hotel, every stay contributes to YWCA Australia, supporting women through housing, services and leadership programmes. Partnering with Quinn brings that ethos into the guest experience, connecting sustainability, creativity, and social impact in a tangible way.

“In an industry often driven by constant updates and newness, The Reclaimed Room offers a different perspective”, says Song Hotel General Manager, Jon Ackary.
“It positions reuse not as a limitation, but as a creative opportunity that brings character, reduces waste, and meets the growing demand for more value-led experiences.”
“Above all, we hope the room is a conversation starter, demonstrating that even in a hotel environment, a more resourceful and purposeful approach to guest experience can deliver something memorable and distinctive.”
