Heritage boutique hotel planned for The Rocks

Boutique operator Baillie Lodges has submitted a development application for a Sydney hotel, including a modern ribbed building joining two Victorian warehouses.

The project, in The Rocks neighborhood, has been designed by architects Tonkin Zulaikha Greer, which has experience in projects incorporating a heritage element. It features a new two-storey building to be built on the site of the Westpac museum with a ribbed façade and a roof terrace.

Baillie Lodges is run by husband-and-wife operators James and Hayley Baillie. They are aiming for a mid-2014 opening for its first inner-city Sydney property. If their application is approved by the Heritage Council, construction could begin in March 2013.

Baillie Lodges was founded in 2003 and currently operates three luxury lodges in wilderness locations, Lord Howe Island, Kangaroo Island and Remarkable Lodge in Tasmania. They are planning a project on Great Ocean Road and a larger Sydney project
