Torquay resort slated for aged care

Plans to sell Torquay’s The Sands resort and turn it into a residential aged-care facility were unveiled at this week’s Surf Coast council meeting.

St Quentin Consulting has lodged a request on behalf of the Handbury Group, developer/operator of The Sands, to prepare a planning scheme amendment/planning permit application for the resort’s hotel. Aged-care provider OC Health had an option to buy the resort’s hotel.

The 112-room hotel was opened in September 2007.
