Gold Coast Holiday Park
Gold Coast Holiday Park in Helensvale on the Gold Coast has undergone some impressive transformations since managers, Leanne and Andrew Dimes took it over eight years ago.
When the Dimes first moved in, Gold Coast Holiday Park was predominately long-term residential. Ideally located directly opposite and close to some of Australia’s largest and most renowned theme parks, Dreamworld, Warner Brothers Movie World and Wet and Wild, it was surprising the property wasn’t accommodating the holiday sector and this was something Leanne and Andrew wanted to rectify.
“When we first got here the property was a 2 ½ star with predominately long-term residents. It had about eight holiday cabins, office hours of 8 to 10 and 3 to 6 and didn’t sell theme park tickets. The property wasn’t in the holiday loop at all. So we started out by making contact with parks and starting to sell tours and tickets, advertising and marketing the property to get word out, building a comprehensive website and creating brochures for more direct marketing. We also proceeded to move a lot of the long-term sites away from the front of the park to develop more cabins and sites for tourism. We extended the office hours and staff and upgraded some major facilities. We still have extension plans but today we have 20 cabins from two bedroom with full kitchen right through to the basic open plan with ensuite and studios which are pet friendly (we are the only pet friendly holiday park on the Gold Coast). We now offer large recreational sites and ensuite sites for caravan and tents, a conference room to cater to the corporate market offering boutique conferences that are married up with accommodation. But the biggest and newest instalment is our 29 room, four-star motel with a range of deluxe family interconnecting rooms and spa king rooms.”
Andrew’s previous experience as a builder has come in handy over the years they have been at the property, not to mention Leanne’s tourism and marketing skills obtained from her time as a travel consultant.
“We lived in New Zealand prior to coming here and we decided we wanted more time and something we could do together which was a bit of a challenge. I had been to the Gold Coast many times before and we both just love the beautiful weather and the family aspect of the area. So we knew it was on the Gold Coast that we wanted to be.”
