Tiger to add new Look to Domestic Services

Tiger Airways has resumed flights from its Melbourne base to Sydney and Brisbane but is keeping its “new-look” domestic service under wraps.

The airline says it’s had solid bookings since returning to the air after a six-week grounding and says it will be reinstating a number of its popular core routes but has yet to say what the full service will comprise.

Tiger spokeswoman Vanessa Regan said the airline was resuming services gradually.

Ms Regan would not reveal which routes would comprise Tiger’s full service in future or the timeframe involved, saying it was commercially sensitive. She said Tiger was focusing on improving the on-time performance of its flights, which was running at about 93% since its first flight back.

Tiger has targeted the two largest markets from Melbourne for its initial return. Melbourne-Sydney is by far its biggest route in Australia, with 17,640 seats per week before the 1 July grounding.

Even before its grounding, Tiger had already planned to cut back to 14 routes across Australia, dropping four routes from 1 August: Brisbane-Sydney, Sydney-Sunshine Coast and between Melbourne Airport and Mackay and Rockhampton.
