Opposition Proposes new era in QLD Tourism
The Liberal National Party has promised to recover what it claims are 30,000 jobs lost in the Queensland tourism industry in the past 10 years under Labor.
Foreshadowing next week’s release of the opposition’s tourism strategy, called DestinationQ, leader Campbell Newman (pictured) said it would include a new partnership arrangement between Tourism Queensland, regional tourism organisations and industry bodies.
The partnership would deal with the fragmentation of the tourism industry, focus on reducing red tape and bureaucratic log jams and make sure tourism operators who tend to be small to medium size enterprises get the support of government.
Mr Newman claims Tourism Queensland had been held back by its political masters.
“The feedback we get through back channels is that they feel let down by this government through constant interference or alternatively a lack of interest,” he said.
He said DestinationQ would be established within 12 months by an LNP government following the state election expected early next year.
