TA’s Facebook Page Tops 2m Hits

Tourism Australia has reached two million fans on Facebook, confirming its place as the most popular destination tourism page in the world.

Coverage of the Sydney Harbour New Year’s Eve fireworks helped tip the page over the two million mark when the fan base rose by 85,000 people in three days.

The See Australia page was launched on Facebook in May 2008 to promote Australian holidays and grew by 855,000 new fans last year and currently has three times as many fans as its nearest rival, Las Vegas.

Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy said digital marketing was a critical element in the ongoing successful promotion of Australia. “Through Facebook we get real stories about what people are currently thinking about Australia which influences our marketing and makes the platform a primary interaction point with our global advocates,” he said.
