Townsville Hotel in new Hands

The Prendiville family from WA have bought the Grand Mercure Apartments in Townsville and rebranded it as Grand Hotel Townsville.

The three-year-old Palmer Street property was taken over in mid-March and the new owners plan to create a “home away from home for mining, defence, government, corporate and leisure guests”, according to Grand Hotel Townsville’s Tim Newson.

The Prendivilles, owners of several tourism properties in Western Australia including Sandalford Wines, Pier 21 Apartment Hotel in Fremantle, The Karratha International Hotel, Hotel Rottnest, The Cottesloe Beach Hotel and Tradewinds Hotel, have plans to further expand its hotel business across Australia in strategic locations.

“We are aiming to be the best place for rest and relaxation after a huge day’s work and the one stop shop for a fun weekend out on the town,” Mr Newson said.

The Grand Hotel has 106 one-bedroom apartments and king hotel rooms. The apartment rooms have full kitchenettes, washing/drying machines and stylishly appointed living rooms, and all rooms have large bath’s, balcony’s with a view, cable TV, in room internet and movies, secure undercover parking, and a 24 hour front desk and room service.
