Ventilation codes open for public comment

Standards Australia has this week announced the ventilation codes AS 1668.2 – The use of ventilation and airconditioning in buildings –

Mechanical ventilation of buildings and a proposed new Standard, AS 1668.4 – The use of ventilation and airconditioning in buildings – Natural Ventilation of Buildings are now open for public comment.
“AS 1668.2 and AS 1668.4 are fundamental to the building and construction sector. They impact workplaces and community health and safety,” said Colin Blair, chief executive officer of Standards Australia.
The revision seeks to separate AS1668.2 into two parts:
• AS1668.2 – Mechanical ventilation of buildings; and
• AS1668.4 – Natural ventilation of buildings.
Mr Blair said issues to be addressed through the revision relate to natural ventilation, smoking in buildings and changes in ventilation technology, communities and workplaces.
Standards Australia said it is anticipated the National Construction Code will adopt the revised edition of AS1668.2.
“As always stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the public comment process. It’s the public comment process that ultimately provides Australian Standards with their rigor and authority,” Mr Blair said.
Standards Australia in conjunction with the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Airconditioning and Heating will be convening two forums for stakeholders to discuss the draft documents:
