Burketown Rebuild Starts Today

Rebuilding of a bigger and better Burketown Hotel starts today [9 July], according to owner Peter Clark.

He said imbibers, who won’t have to travel 120km to Gregory for a beer once the new pub is finished, will be spoiled for choice with three bars, function room, beer garden and a main bar twice the size the original.

The 92-year-old original was razed in March but the new Burketown Hotel is expected to be completed by October. It will have a “modern” heritage look but with outback country hospitality, said Mr Clark.

Builder Trevor Jones said he is integrating energy efficient products within the framework of the building by utilising solar panels.

He said plans for eight units for staff and tourists on a site adjacent the hotel have been proposed to the Burke Shire Council and are waiting approval.
