Adelaide hotel stunned by power cost
The Belair Hotel in Adelaide has been hit with a 45% jump in the off-peak component of its monthly power bill due to the carbon tax.
Its January account came in at $15,494.83 compared with its July bill of $19,092.65 – due in part to a leap from 4.5 cents per kilowatt hour to 6.51 cents a kWh, according to Belair director Brett Matthews.
The reason listed on the July bill was “carbon adjustment”.
Mr Matthews said he was “stunned” by the amount and said the extra cost would mean “jobs or prices”.
