Boost for Christmas Island tourism
Tourism to Christmas Island is set to boom after Christmas Island Air secured a weekly return flight to and from Kuala Lumpur.
“This is a huge boost to tourism,” says Linda Cash, of the Christmas Island Tourism Association.
The Australian Territory is located 300km to the south-west of Java and is famous for its annual crab migration rated by Sir David Attenborough as one of his top ten nature experiences of all time.
“This northern flight direct from one of the busiest airports in Asia means that people who have only ever dreamt of traveling to our shores can finally explore these natural wonders,” says Ms Cash, “The island’s tourism industry is gearing up for a busy six months.”
The service will be operated for Christmas Island Air by Firefly that will utilise its Boeing 737-400 aircraft in a seating capacity of 162 on this route
