Direct flights between Sydney and Gladstone
Qantas has announced the opening of direct flights between Sydney and Gladstone that will begin operating in early 2013.
The new service will offer eight return flights a week, providing some 1200 seats to passengers between the NSW capital and the mining town in Queensland’s far north.
Qantas Domestic CEO Lyell Strambi said the service will begin flights from March 4 and use NextGeneration Q400 aircraft that seat 74 passengers at a time.
Sydney represents the first destination outside of Queensland that is now directly accessible by plane from Gladstone.
The growing importance of towns such as Gladstone in a corporate sense has been identified as the prime reason for the creation of the new direct service.
