More flights from Philippines, China

International air services into Australia are growing rapidly.

Philippine Airlines has announced non-stop services from both Sydney and Melbourne to Manila and increased flight frequencies from five to seven flights per week from October 28.

Chinese carrier Sichuan Airlines is to launch services to Melbourne with thrice weekly flights from Chengdu.

Last month China Southern announced increases in services between Brisbane and Guangzhou from four to seven per week with three of these being via Cairns from December 18 to February 28. China Eastern is also due to begin direct flights between its base in Shanghai and Cairns in December.

Announcing the Sichuan Airlines deal during a trade mission to China, Victorian premier Ted Baillieu said, “Direct air services between Melbourne and Chengdu will increase business, education and tourism ties between Victoria and China.”
China Eastern, China Southern and Air China already fly directly from China to Melbourne.
