The Green Heralds RNA Rebirth

The first stage of Brisbane’s $2.9 billion RNA Showgrounds renaissance has been launched. The residential tower, one of five planned for the site, will have 340 apartments and should be open half way through 2014.

Queensland premier Campbell Newman announced the development, to be named The Green, on Friday. The RNA entire development will take 15 years to complete with 416,000m² of new event facilities plus commercial, retail, and residential facilities. It also includes a new convention centre and hotel.

Lend Lease Australia chief executive Mark Menhinnitt said construction to this point focused on RNA infrastructure but the company has now released four of the buildings to the market and secured 50% off-the-plan sales, which he said was “encouraging”.

AN44-1-DN-The Green2RNA chief executive Brendan Christou said construction of the first residential apartments was the next critical stage for the project. “This renewal is transforming our iconic RNA Showgrounds into a year round destination and events precinct, a place where people will live, work and play.”

Mr Christou said it was unlikely the hotel would be ready in time for the G20 summit in 2014.
