Fire Causes Resort Evacuation
The Kings Canyon Resort (pictured) about 320km southeast of Alice Springs has been damaged by a fire in the Wartarrka National Park on Tuesday [8 January].
About 120 guests and staff were evacuated from the resort to the Mereenie Oil Fields.
“There is substantial damage to the resort,” said Kings Canyon Resort’s Louise Longman.
A later flyover said the resort appears to have escaped serious structural damage.
Earlier, people staying at a caravan and camping park near the canyon were moved to the resort area.
