Boutique hotels feature in marina upgrade
The Port Douglas Marina will be transformed it into a five-star marina with a boutique resort precinct.
The marina has been sold to Chinese-born Sydney businessman Grant Shang subject to legal due diligence.
According to The Cairns Post, chairman of Tourism Think Tank Don Morris confirmed his client reached an agreement with owner Meridien Marinas.
“It is Grant Shang’s intention to totally redevelop the location as a state-of-the-art tropical five-star, retail, boutique resort hotel and residential complex, in strict accordance with all relevant regulatory requirements and the Port Douglas Master Plan,” Mr Morris said.
While not revealing the price of the sale, Mr Morris said his client had also reached a financial agreement with the state government, which agreed to convert the land to a freehold status.
