Hotel focus of Devonport redevelopment plan

A seven-storey hotel is part of a proposal to be put to the Devonport City Council this week for the redevelopment of the Mersey River.

Developed by Shayne Allison and Launceston architect Les Penzes, the proposal includes the relocation of the Spirit of Tasmania terminal to the city side of Mersey River and turning the unused grain silos into a hotel with a rooftop restaurant and three-storey undercover car park.

The plan will go to a special council workshop this week. Mr Allison said he was after support from the council so he could further the project to the next level.

The grain silos went up for tender last May and Mr Allison had put in an application for the tender.
