Port Stephens goes all out for China

Port Stephens will be promoted at a trade mission in China with hopes of capitalising on the booming Chinese tourism market, which is worth $1.2 billion to the NSW economy each year, according to Destination Port Stephens marketing manager Tars Bylhouwer.

He claims that Destination Port Stephens has been targeting the Chinese market since 1998 and their long-term efforts are now paying off.

Destination Port Stephens will be using its successful, ‘PS. I Love You’ marketing campaign in China and promoting Port Stephens as “a microcosm of all that overseas visitors love about Australia – spectacular scenery, great beaches, exciting wildlife and adventure”.

Joining the China promotion are Moonshadow Cruises, Port Stephens Four Wheel Drive and Newcastle Airport. They will meet travel industry representatives and wholesalers in Bejing and Chengdu.

“We are also keen to encourage more Chinese tourists to use Newcastle Airport and in the longer term see Newcastle Airport become an international gateway,” Mr Bylhouwer said.

China is the second biggest visitor market for NSW after New Zealand, with Chinese tourists spending a record 10.4 million nights and $1.2 billion in NSW last year.
