Shoalhaven development before council
A redevelopment application for the Australian Postal Institute site near the Shoalhaven Heads Surf Club will go before Shoalhaven City Council Development Committee this week.
The Australian Postal Institute, through Kawarra Beach P/L, has submitted plans to subdivide the block into eight lots and develop 16 tourist accommodation units that will front the golf course, an in-ground pool, a café and a number of the dwellings for permanent residential use which will front McIntosh St.
Local residents have voiced concerns regarding the proposal, with council receiving 30 individual submissions, of which 24 were against the development. Council has also received a petition of more than 125 signatures against the proposal.
Many of the submissions argue the site should be preserved for tourist related development, not for additional residential housing.
