China Southern to bring in super jumbos

The importance of Australia as a destination has been emphasised by plans by Asia’s largest airline to introduce A380 aircraft on some of its routes this year.

China Southern plans to fly A380s on its Sydney-Guangzhou route later in 2013. A senior executive of the airline, Chen Gang, will visit Sydney this month to announce the timing of the introduction.

China Southern also plans to introduce new A330 jets between its three other Australian destinations and Guangzhou, China’s third-largest city, later this year.

In another move to stimulate stopovers in China, China Southern expects Guangzhou authorities to soon introduce a similar 72-hour, visa-free policy that operates in Beijing and Shanghai saving travellers the $98 for a one-entry visa.

China Southern has 35 return flights a week to four cities and aims to increase this to 55 services within two years.
