Kingscliff resort scrapped

Leighton Properties is not proceeding with its $105 million dollar development planned for Lot 490, Casuarina Way at Kingscliff in northern NSW.

The Tweed Shire Council planning department last year recommended approval for the resort with a reduced number of apartments from 180 to 127 because of concerns over its environmental impact.

Residents protested the proposal on environmental grounds but Leighton’s decision was based more on economic reasons.

Tweed Shire Council will discuss soon what options it could recommend to the state government for the site. Cr Warren Polglase said he was happy with the outcome. “The Leighton development didn’t provide what we are looking for.”
