Campbelltown hotel plan abandoned
Frustrated by “ongoing government indecision”, Rezz Hotel’s co-owner Richard Hamood has abandoned plans for a hotel overlooking Thorndon Park lake in Campbelltown.
The plan –that dates back to 2004 – involved a land swap with the state government, which would have resulted in a hotel being built on the Transport Department depot.
Mr Hamood said, “Our vision was to build an iconic venue fronting Gorge Rd, on the depot site, which would also have met Campbelltown Council’s vision under its 30-Year Plan with the current Rezz Hotel site earmarked for high-density living.”
He said the Rezz Hotel would now undergo a multimillion dollar redevelopment including a new function area, extended accommodation, refurbished lounges, pokies room, bottle shop, bar and cafe. Work is expected to start in 2015
