WA resort sold, up for refurbishment

Peter Prendiville has acquired the waterfront Mangrove Resort Hotel in Broome more than a year after it was put up for sale by its Queensland-based owner, Christian Ainsworth.

It is believed his plans for the 68-room property include a major refurbishment to take better advantage of Broome’s tourism trade and a growth in conference and function business.
Mr Ainsworth is reported to have paid $12 million for the Mangrove in 2005.

Mr Prendiville already Hotel Rottnest, the Cottesloe Beach Hotel, Karratha International Hotel, the Tradewinds Hotel in East Fremantle, Fremantle’s Pier 21 Apartments, the Norseman Eyre Motel and the Balladonia Hotel Motel on the Nullarbor.

The Mangrove was marketed by Colliers as “the best located hotel in Broome”.

Located on an elevated 1ha site the hotel has unobstructed and sweeping views across Roebuck Bay. It has two restaurants, bars and two pools, was offered for sale on a freehold, walk-in, walk-out basis in January 2012 as part of a rationalisation of Mr Ainsworth’s property portfolio. It was re-advertised through Colliers towards the end of 2012.
