Vineyard resort for McLaren Vale

South Australia’s McLaren Vale is to get a five-star boutique resort complete with a couple of vineyards.

Developer Barrie Stacey has received approval from the Onkaparinga Council for a resort on Seaview Rd, with 25 hotel rooms, 16 three-bedroom cottages, a function centre, restaurant and day spa.

In 2009 Mr Stacey received approval for a 100-apartment resort but shelved the plans because of the economic downturn. Mr Stacey said the smaller boutique development better suited the current economic climate but 164 guests will be able to stay at any one time. He said the resort would take “the next few years” to complete.
Two vineyards are included in the development: Jock and Tom Harvey, of Chalk Hill Wines use the northern vineyard, while Bekkers Wines will have the southern site. Bekkers had lodged plans with the council to open a cellar door on the southern vineyard.
