Melbourne airport hotel underway
Construction began on the 97-key Quest Serviced Apartment property at Melbourne Airport on 30 October and was marked by an official sod-turning ceremony.
On-site for the momentous occasion were Paul Constantinou, chairman – Quest Serviced Apartments; Andrew Weisz, general manager locations – Quest Serviced Apartments; Chris Woodruff – CEO Melbourne Airport, Linc Horton – general manager property, Melbourne Airport and Jim Mercoulia – Merkon Constructions.
Mr Constantinou said, “There are more than 14,000 people employed in roles supported by Melbourne Airport. Combine this with the 30 million people who pass through the airport each year, and there is a strong need for the quality accommodation that Quest supply,” Mr Constantinou said.
“We make it our business to deliver capacity for growing markets, and are doing so by expanding our network significantly. In the next 12 months we are planning to open eight new properties. Commencing construction today here at Melbourne Airport is yet another milestone in our growth strategy,” Mr Constantinou added.
Melbourne Airport CEO, Chris Woodruff, said the project would help to meet the growing demand for serviced accommodation from companies and organisations with operations at the airport, or were doing business with airport or aviation related companies located at Melbourne Airport.
“Providing more accommodation choice for people doing business at the airport, or are undertaking aviation training in the airport precinct, will support the future growth of these businesses in our local region,” Mr. Woodruff said.
Also on-site for the ceremony was Jim Mercoulia, who established Merkon Constructions in 1986. Merkon Constructions is a mid-tier construction company operating predominantly in the Melbourne CBD and metropolitan areas and country Victoria. Quest Melbourne Airport will be Merkon Constructions seventh Quest development.
The 97 room property, designed by Fenton Design Group will compromise of studio, one, two and three bedroom serviced apartments. Apartments are fully equipped with a kitchen, laundry, Foxtel, LCD TV and WIFI.
