Multi-million cultural-hotel development by Sunland

Gold Coast developer Sunland is having talks with Queensland deputy premier Jeff Seeney about a project for its Mariner’s Cove landholding on The Spit.

Sunland managing director Sahba Abedian wants to build a billion-dollar multi-tower development and arts precinct to rival the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain.

Part of the development would include an international hotel as well as a marina, residential buildings, retail outlets and arts museum.

Sunland is negotiating with an internationally renowned architect Zaha Hadid to design the project.

The project is expected to be completed before the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Sunland bought the Mariner’s Cove site in 2011 for $13 million.
