The end of an era as the last Formule 1 rebrands

The most recognised hotel at the entrance to Sydney Domestic Airport has rebranded from Formule 1 to Ibis Budget Sydney Airport, heralding the end of Formule 1 hotels in Australia as Accor’s expansion of the Ibis Budget brand takes hold.

Since the introduction of the Ibis megabrand structure, Ibis Budget has grown to 19 hotels in Australia with former Formule 1 hotels falling under the new banner. Ibis Budget East Sydney (which rebranded 12/11/2013) and Ibis Budget Sydney Airport were the last remaining Formule 1’s to rebadge.

Following Accor’s consolidation of its economy hotel portfolio, the group has been progressively refurbishing former Formule 1 hotels and bringing them into line with what has become expected of budget hotels in Europe and America. To date the investment has been paying dividends.

To celebrate the hotel’s rebadging, Ibis Budget Sydney Airport is offering guests a special rebranding rate from $99 per night from now until 31 January 2014.

Boasting 200 guestrooms, Ibis Budget Sydney Airport features David Forbes-designed interiors, fully soundproofed rooms, queen size beds along with bunk beds, work desks and wifi.

Just a five minute walk to the domestic airport, the hotel offers a shuttle service which takes guests to and from the Domestic and International terminals. An arrivals and departures monitor is conveniently stationed in the hotel lobby for guests’ convenience.
