Brampton owners granted extension

The owners of Brampton Island near Mackay has requested an extension of time to respond to providing further application for the resort’s redevelopment.

United Petroleum purchased the island resort in 2010 and lodged a development application with Mackay Regional Council last year. In November, MRC director of development services Kevin Jefferies said the applicant had two months left to provide information to the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection.

The company has said it needs more time to respond.

Mr Jeffries and state agencies had agreed and United Petroleum now has until 11 July to respond to the information request.

The island closed on 24 January, 2011.
