Rydges World Square goes uptown with major $6 million upgrade

A “fresh and crisp” new look is being promised for guests of Rydges Sydney World Square – from its lobby right through to all the hotel rooms and suites.

Owner of the hotel, the Schwartz Family Company, is investing over $6 million in the upgrade of the property located in the heart of the Sydney central business district.

The upgraded lobby is almost complete, with bold new furnishings, a multi-media screen backdrop to the reception, and a new colour scheme.

Work will get underway to refurbish all rooms, with a “business friendly” design that is also aimed at creating a warm and spacious feel for guests.

Another major plus will be free wi-fi throughout the hotel, with guests able to use up to four devices at one time.

The new look comes as the hotel caters increasingly for corporate and business event clients, with the precinct becoming increasingly popular for the corporate market.

“Sydney’s business community has been increasingly moving south,” says Rydges World Square general manager, John McIlwain. “We are also one of the largest conference hotels in the area, and with the closure of the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, demand for our conference facilities has increased by over 20% in just the first quarter of 2014.

“We can handle conferences and events for up to 500, and with our major upgrade to rooms scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, we will be even better equipped to host large residential conferences.”

Mr McIlwain said that while the hotel was consciously targeting the corporate and business events market with its extensive upgrade, its position in the heart of the city, a few minutes from the cinema and theatre district, Chinatown, the Entertainment Centre, Darling Harbour and premier shopping and dining options made it equally attractive for leisure guests, with the hotel regularly full on weekends.

The room refurbishments will include new furnishings in the bedroom and bathroom, new carpets and a wall mounted TV to maximise space. The new look will complement the Rydges Dream Bed, which features crisp, white linens and custom black bed scarves and pillows.

Dining options include the Square Bar and Sphere Restaurant, which offers Mediterranean-themed cuisine.

A gymnasium and 24-hour valet parking are also available.
