Townsville Motel Goes Boutique

Townsville CBD’s budget Central City Motel is undergoing a $1 million-plus makeover and being rebranded as the Clarion by Hudson Group.

Hudson Group general manager Shane Rettke said the three-star motel was being transformed into a boutique luxury hotel with a 4½ star rating and will include a function room.

A new $300,000 lift has been installed and electrical, air-conditioning and IT systems have been upgraded. A staged renovation of hotel rooms, offices and function centre will be undertaken from July. Most of the furnishings including beds were being custom made.

New York designer Boyana Popvassilev of 26 Street Design has been engaged for the project.

“We want to give guests a special experience with furnishing they would not see anywhere else,” Mr Rettke said.

Hudson has managed the hotel for the past 12 months and this month secured a lease over 28 rooms in two floors with the option to lease a further 28 rooms on two floors.
