Brewery Site to be Apartment Complex

Grocon, with equity partner Qualitas and financier Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, is moving ahead with its $110 million Bouverie Street Apartments development on the former Carlton Brewery site in Melbourne.

Construction is set to commence on Bouverie Street Apartments for completion early in 2016.

The 225 apartments and town houses in the Bouverie St Apartments development has been designed by Studio 505 architects. Phil Lydeamore from Grocon Group Capital said there would be further development of another 0.9 hectares which remains over four sites.

Grocon bought the 1.6ha site from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology for $39 million in 2006.

Meanwhile, construction on the former Yorkshire Brewery heritage site in Collingwood has begun with a six-storey complex with 358 apartments in Melbourne’s inner northeast. The site was bought for $9.79 million in 2010.

The heritage site includes an 1887 six-storey brew tower and, working closely with Lovell Chen heritage architects, Hayball architects plans call for a small village with its own piazza and shops.
