100m Imperial City ready to go

Towers of 100m seem to be all the rage in Australia. Southport wants to keep the tallest high-rise title on the Gold Coast and aims to start construction of its Imperial City by the end of the year.

The billion-dollar Imperial City project, on a 1.3ha site on the corner of Southport’s Merron St and Ferry Rd is expected to feature up to six towers, including a flagship super tower of more than 100 storeys.

Developer Rob Badalotti’s Azzura International Constructions submitted its development application with the Gold Coast City Council late last week. It includes hotel, high-density student accommo¬dation and apartments.

The site is expected to have space for up to 2200 units, a 200-room hotel and 200 student accommodation rooms. Architect Finn Jones designed Imperial City and said it was inspired by similar high-rises built in Singapore.
