Booking.com on changes to Australian policy terms

accomnews asked the OTA whether recent policy term changes made to its European site would eventually extend to Australia and the rest of the Asia Pacific.

A spokesperson told us late last night: “Booking.com intends to implement the commitments with respect to bookings made by consumers worldwide, at accommodations located in the EEA. Of course we continue to comply with competition law in all countries where we operate.”

This response comes amid news the National Competition Authorities in France, Italy and Sweden accepted amendments to its parity commitments, allowing properties to offer different pricing and booking policies on other OTAs.

Although the changes it has made will likely benefit other OTAs, Booking.com will maintain the power to ensure hotels offer the same rates via direct bookings as they do on booking.com.

Read Monday’s story for more detail on the European amendments and check back in as accomnews continues to update with any future developments.
