Five-star hotel for Maryborough

Dynamic go-ahead tourist town of Maryborough – home of Mary Poppins – is to get an eight-storey hotel – the city’s tallest building.

Cousins Development Group wants to build an eight-storey structure at the site of the old Wide Bay Club on the corner of Adelaide and Sussex Sts.

The Queens Park Hotel was initially intended to be five-storeys high but Cousins is to negotiate with the Fraser Coast Regional Council to build an eight-storey hotel.

CDG boss Russell Cousins said the existing building at the site would soon be completely demolished to prepare for the new hotel to be built. “Designs have been down for a five-level hotel. We want to build an eight-level hotel,” Mr Cousins said. “This is a substantial hotel development.”

CDG wants to develop a ‘5½-star’ serviced apartment complex that “will supply a much-needed boost of the supply of quality short-term accommo-dation in Maryborough”.

“The apartments will be stra-ta-titled and sold individually, enabling buyers to live in their own apartment, rent them long-term, to be placed in the letting pool,”according to Mr Cousins.
