Mobile app keys deployed to 30,000 rooms, 100 properties

ASSA ABLOY Hospitality (VingCard Elsafe) has unveiled ASSA ABLOY Hospitality Mobile Access, a mobile phone-based keyless entry solution developed for the global hotel market.

Already installed in more than 30,000 guestrooms at over 100 properties worldwide, the technology enables hotel guests to bypass the front desk by using their mobile phone or device to securely access their assigned guestroom.

The company cited increased speed, convenience, guest-efficiency, streamlined front desk operations and reduced operational costs for the hotelier as the initial result of the new tech.

Product director of mobile access & credentials at ASSA ABLOY Hospitality Gard Gabrielsen said: “Today, hotels are looking at a variety of mobile-based solutions that facilitate one-on-one communication with their guests.

“Our mobile access solution helps drive this by adding value to their mobile strategies and making them even more relevant to their customers. On the operational side, it frees up the front desk team to focus on other important aspects of guest service, which reduces costs and ultimately drives loyalty and revenue.”

Tim Shea, president of ASSA ABLOY Hospitality, added: “When VingCard introduced RFID technology to the industry in 2006, a plan was already in place to link this technology to the use of mobile keys.

“Our future-proof approach to technology means that customers who purchased VingCard RFID locking systems can add mobile access technology without replacing their existing locks, making the transition to mobile keys simple and affordable. This long-range technology planning represents our commitment to bringing continuous innovation to the market to better serve our customers’ changing needs.”

“As smartphones get even smarter, tech-savvy consumers increasingly expect this kind of functionality in their travel experience,” continued Gabrielsen. “In the airline industry, it’s become very common that passengers can check-in and get their boarding passes directly on their phones. With our Mobile Access technology, travelers can now experience the same convenience at their hotel.”
