Rachel Botsman to headline Ted’s Technology Summit 2015

Ted’s Technology Summit, the leading Australian conference focusing on technology for senior decision makers in the hospitality industry, is pleased to announce Rachel Botsman as its headline speaker for its upcoming July 27th event.

As a global authority on disruptive technology, Rachel will deliver a keynote speech educating Australian hoteliers around the rise in sharing economy businesses like Airbnb and their impact on the local accommodation booking landscape.

The ramifications of the growth in popularity of Airbnb and sharing accommodation business are significant. A recent Barclay’s report, titled “Hotels: Is Airbnb a game-changer?”* predicted that:

  • Airbnb’s growth in bookings could triple in size in the next year, putting the company on track to outpace the largest hotel companies within a few years.
  • By the end of 2016, the room-sharing platform could boast 129 million room-nights per year.

Airbnb currently represents as much as 17.2% of hotel room supply in New York, 11.9% in Paris, and 10.4% in London.*

“The accommodation landscape is undergoing a seismic shift. The growth in the sharing economy is leading to unprecedented change in the accommodation booking habits of people around the world,” said Ted Horner of E Horner & Associates.

“The growth in rooms available, bookings converted and revenue gained by Airbnb and other sharing accommodation businesses is a huge issue for Australian hoteliers. Every dollar that these businesses make is a dollar that your hotel could have added to you bottom line.”

“It is critical that Australian hoteliers understand the threats and opportunities posed by the rise of Airbnb and similar businesses. What are these businesses doing so well that is leading them to grow so quickly? What can hoteliers learn from these operators to attract more guests? As the leading global thought leader in this space Rachel offers invaluable insights for Australian hoteliers,” said Ted.
