Adelaide to get new beachside hotel
Glenelg’s Comfort Inn is to be demolished to build 12-storey, $110 million hotel in the beachside Adelaide suburb.
Developer Bruno Marveggio says Glenelg is ready for a big new hotel and plans a complex with apartments, shops, a gym and a function centre to be named the Marina Regency. There would also be apartments and penthouses for buyers.
Mr Marveggio, who bought the two-storey Comfort Inn 15 years ago said Glenelg was crying out for more tourism options. He said the Comfort Inn needed more than a facelift. “I had to decide whether to spend a lot of money and renovate the rooms and still only have 70 (guest rooms) or start again.”
Mr Marveggio hopes to get development approval for the 140-room Marina Regency this year and build it by 2018.
“I had to decide whether to spend a lot of money and renovate the rooms and still only have 70 (rooms), or start again.”
The Comfort Inn would be demolished in the first stage of the 20-month development.
