Airbnb increasingly competitive with hotel sector, latest STR report reveals
Airbnb has become a relatively significant threat to the hotel industry in New York, New York, according to STR’s latest analysis.
As of May 2015, 55 per cent of the units listed in New York City on Airbnb were entire homes/apartments while just three per cent were shared rooms.
According to the report, hotel room rates were US$289 across all the boroughs while the rate of competing Airbnb units reached just US$256.
This research conflicts with the common notion that Airbnb’s success has more potential to impede on the hotel sector in regional areas.
