InterContinental Hotels Group introduces hotel delivery robot

Crowne Plaza San Jose-Silicon Valley hotel will house a new robot named Dash, created by california-based company Savioke.

It is hoped that Dash will boost guest experiences by delivering snacks and amenities on cue. The device is around 3-feet tall and weighs less than 50kg.

Not only can Dash move at the equivalent speed to human walking pace, it can independently navigate between floors and call the hotel elevator via its wifi link.

Upon arrival at a room, the robot phones the guest to deliver the requested items and then makes its way back to the front desk where it can dock itself into its charging station.

Gina LaBarre, Vice President, Americas Brand Management, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, IHG, commented: “We are delighted to introduce Dash to our guests at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Milpitas. Given the hotel’s location in the heart of Silicon Valley, I expect our guests to be impressed by the technological sophistication of the robot.”

Steve Cousins, CEO of Savioke said: “We’re excited to see the updated version of our Relay robot find a home at this Crowne Plaza hotel. With more than 300 guest rooms, this is the largest hotel to use our robot technology, and as Dash becomes a fixture at the hotel, we look to hearing some great stories from guests and staff alike.”

The results of testing will determine whether or not the robot is rolled out to other properties.
