Hotelier union stops Airbnb deal with French rail company

A deal that was set to be unveiled between Airbnb and French national rail booking firm Voyages-SNCF.com was quashed under pressure from the accommodation unions.

The deal would have had customers referred to the sharing economy site directly from the rail booking interface, which would have increased competition further with traditional accommodation providers.

Union of Trades and of the Hospitality Industries strongly opposed the deal and later said in a statement online: “It was decided to put an end to this partnership.

“The union and voyages-sncf.com agreed to meet again in January to jointly explore new ways of tourist developments between voyages-sncf.com and the French hotel industry.”
