Forecast for 2016: Sunshine Coast to enter ‘Ice Age’ this winter

Australia Zoo will be transformed into a winter wonderland during the 2016 June/July school holidays to celebrate the launch of ‘Ice Age 5: Collision Course’.

Thanks to a partnership with 20th Century Fox and Visit Sunshine Coast, the normally sunny and mild Australia Zoo will take on a distinctly chilly feel, with a wide variety of snow related themes incorporated into the Park’s daily activities including toboggan rides, snowball activities and much, much more.

Ice Age graphicAustralia Zoo’s Director of Marketing, Darren Gertler, is optimistic about the opportunities this partnership will bring not only for Australia Zoo but also the Sunshine Coast region.

“We’re particularly excited about this partnership and the global exposure it will create. 20th Century Fox is also very excited to join forces with Australia Zoo, noting the synergies between the two brands.

“Bringing Ice Age: Collision Course to life at Australia Zoo will engage families leading up to the cinema release, promote the region on a world stage and showcase our amazing animals with their ties to the Ice Age characters,” said Darren.

CEO of Visit Sunshine Coast, Simon Ambrose, said the promotion was another example of the Sunshine Coast displaying its diversity, with great events and activities blending easily with the region’s natural attractions.

“Most visitors to the Sunshine Coast in June and July are getting away from the cold, because of our renowned mild and sunny winters, so this really will be a first for kids and adults alike – a white winter on the Sunshine Coast,” said Mr Ambrose.

“This is a tremendous example of Australia Zoo being a great innovator; offering visitors the rather remarkable combination of being able to swim at the beach in the morning, watch a crocodile show over lunch and throw snowballs in the afternoon.”

Hollywood’s presence on the Sunshine Coast follows the success of Bindi Irwin on American TV screens, as she danced her way to stardom with victory in the USA Dancing With The Stars national program.

Further details specifically about the event at Australia Zoo will be available closer to the date.
