Survey reveals Aussie pets are jet set pets

The travel plans of Australian pet parents are heavily influenced by their dogs and cats: 75 percent of dog owners would choose travel destinations based on whether their dog could join them, according to PETstock’s Pet Parent Survey results.

Over 700 Australians participated in the national questionnaire conducted by Australian owned pet specialty retailer, PETstock.

It seems that canines in particular dominate their owners’ travel itineraries. Pet parents have confessed that they’ve done the following:

 75 per cent of dog owners either have or would consider choosing travel destinations based on whether their dog could come, with 16 per cent refusing to travel unless they could take their dog along.
 20 per cent of cat owners either have or would consider choosing travel destinations based on whether their cat could come, with seven per cent refusing to travel unless they could take their cat.
 41 per cent of dog owners confessed they travel less now that they own a dog, compared to 31 percent of cat owners.
 26 per cent of cat owners believe putting their cat in a cattery is a holiday for their cat as much as it is for them compared to 20 per cent of dog owners

PETstock Chief Executive Officer, Shane Young, said, “It’s quite clear that Aussies love to travel with their pets. A holiday wouldn’t be complete without including all members of the family, even the furry ones! More and more pet owners are looking to destinations that provide animal-friendly accommodation so their fur babies aren’t left out of all the fun!”
