Visitors to benefit from seasonal worker pilot

Domestic and international visitors are set to benefit from increased levels of service as a result of the commencement of the Seasonal Worker Programme Northern Australia tourism pilot, according to Australia’s accommodation industry.

The new pilot will build on the success the program has had for the accommodation industry in other parts of Australia.

“Although the downturn in the mining sector has brought about changes in employment participation in northern Australia, it is still difficult for accommodation businesses in this region to attract and retain staff,” said the chief executive officer of the Accommodation Association of Australia, Richard Munro.

“This is why the commencement of the Seasonal Worker Programme Northern Australia tourism pilot is so important.

“The more staff the accommodation industry is able to employ in this region, the better the tourism experience will be for domestic and international visitors.”

The Accommodation Association looks forward to working with key stakeholders to assist with ensuring this new pilot achieves its objectives.

“As with other similar pilots, the Accommodation Association will be actively encouraging tourism accommodation businesses to participate,” Mr Munro said.

“At a time when visitor numbers are continuing to grow, maintaining adequate staffing levels in accommodation businesses in northern Australia is an integral part of making their stay even better.”
