Great Barrier Reef named top global destination despite coral bleaching
A once-in-a-lifetime destination, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia is the No. 1 best place to visit in the world, according to the U.S. News & World Report.
In a separate, Asia Pacific-limited list, Sydney was ranked second to the Reef. This news comes just after the Australian government allegedly removed a chapter from the World Heritage and Tourism in a Changing Climate Report, which detailed the sadly deteriorating state of the Reef.
According to The Guardian, government officials have confirmed that authors were asked to remove any reference to any Australian world heritage sites.
To identify top vacation spots worldwide, US News analysed more than 250 destinations using a methodology that combines travellers’ opinions with expert analysis. Paris was ranked second and Bora Bora came in third.
