Travelling public should ignore political uncertainty

Consumers are being urged to ignore the political uncertainty in Canberra and continue to take short holiday breaks.

The Accommodation Association of Australia said while the delay in determining who will form government is not ideal, it should not stop the travelling public from enjoying time off from work

“The accommodation industry’s preference is for a clear election outcome, but a few extra days in achieving this will not materially change the many fantastic experiences consumers can have when taking a short break,” said the Association’s chief executive officer, Richard Munro.

“The accommodation industry looks forward to working with the new government – whoever is in power in Canberra – to assist with ensuring there continues to be strong growth in our sector, as well as tourism more broadly.

“It is particularly important for this message to be communicated given school holidays have either started or about to start across Australia.

“It is also vital to both our industry and the broader economy that businesses should not put off corporate travel during this period, too.”

Recent further increases in the level of international visitation have been extremely positive for the industry, but Australians holidaying within Australia – even if it just to visit friends and relatives – continues to be a vital economic driver.

“Domestic tourism continues to be one of the mainstays of Australia’s accommodation industry,” Mr Munro said.

“The accommodation industry is encouraging any Australians who have been considering taking break to go ahead and do this – to take in the numerous amazing experiences a holiday within Australia delivers, even during winter months.”
