Majority of managers are looking to refurbish
Our new infographic indicates which accommodation managers are looking to refurbish.
The results are based on our four-week survey, which was conducted from mid-March to April 2016 among accomnews readers and AMG subscribers who either own or operate accommodation properties within Australia. We had a total of 385 qualified respondents, which is a fantastic turn-out and the results have been hugely informative.
The majority of those respondents came from resorts/apartments (more than 35 percent), followed by motels (29 percent). We also found that the vast majority of respondents ran properties that were over 10 years’ old (more than 80 percent). A huge 56 percent of respondents are owner operators at properties more than 20 years’ old.
Who’s looking to refurbish their interiors?
From our infographic it is clear that 75 percent of respondents are looking to refurbish their property interiors within the next five years. A massive 43 percent of resorts/apartments want to refurbish their interiors within the next year, while 37 percent want to refurbish within the next one-to-five.
Of the motels, it’s clear that an even higher 45 percent want to refurbish within the next year, while 44 percent have their eyes on refurbishing within one-to-five. A further 10 percent noted they would like to target an interior refurbishment within the next 10 years.
Who’s looking to refurbish exteriors?
Interestingly, the majority of respondents were looking to refurbish their exteriors within the next one-to-five years as opposed to the interior refurbishments, which lent slightly towards the next year.
Fifty-five percent of respondents said they would target an exterior revamp in the next five years and within that, resorts/apartments were more likely to take the leap than motels (albeit by a small margin). Just under 39 percent of resort/apartment owners claimed they would aim to refurbish in one-to-five years while 21.5 percent said they would do so within the next year. A further 20 percent noted six-to-ten years as a more likely timeframe.
Of the motel owner operators, on the other hand, 35 percent said they were looking to refurbish their exteriors within one-five years while 17.7 percent favoured the next year and just 11.5 percent highlighted six-to-ten years.
This is just a tiny sample of the results from the survey, we will be publishing more in-depth analysis over the next few months as well as using this information to tailor our content and improve our service to you, our readers.
