Classic Holidays National Kiteboarding League crowns champions on Gold Coast

The Classic Holidays National Kiteboarding League (NKL) concluded on the weekend with the winners of the 2016/17 Championship crowned at the Grand Final of the national event series on the Gold Coast.

Queenslanders took advantage of their home break, taking out the top 3 spots in the series in the freestyle category, with Noosa’s Kye Evans winning his first national title, while the Big Air Championship was taken out by Dutch kiteboarder, Jesse Bruinsma.

Classic Holidays CEO, Ramy Filo, said sponsoring the event series, now in its second year, was a great fit for the holiday company.

“At Classic Holidays we’re passionate about creating opportunities for our members to make holiday memories,” said Mr Filo.

“Kiteboarding is a fast-paced, action packed sport so it has great appeal for spectators, but what we love most about this event series is providing families and new comers to the sport with the opportunity to have a go at something new themselves.”

The free ‘Have a Go’ component of the NKL – where beachgoers of any age can learn to fly a trainer kite on the beach during each round of the competition – has now seen close to 1,000 participants since the national event series commenced in 2015.

With 65,000 Classic member families across Australia and New Zealand, Mr Filo said it was important to give families more reasons to travel, with events being a strong driver.

“By supporting this event, we hope to see more families getting out and experiencing something they may not have seen before, and we’ve been proud to help launch a grassroots sport to a broader audience across the country.”
