Little National wins big property award

Doma Group’s Little National Hotel in Barton has taken home the Property Council of Australia’s ACT Development of the Year award.

Doma Group, led by Jure Domazet, was presented with the ACT Development of the Year award at a cocktail reception at the National Gallery of Australia this evening.

“Little National has reinvented the affordable luxury market in Canberra with a sophisticated design, high quality amenities and a unique business model,” says the Property Council’s ACT executive director Adina Cirson.

The 120-room hotel within walking distance of Parliament House was conceived for business, conference and leisure guests who demanded luxury and amenity without the price tag.

Guestrooms feature all the amenities of a five-star hotel, and common areas – including a library and lounge – are open 24 hours a day. Dining options are co-located throughout the Realm precinct.

“Little National is a vibrant addition to Doma Group’s growing precinct in Barton, and showcases the ACT’s strong skills in precinct planning and design,” Ms Cirson explains.

Established by Ivan Domazet in 1974, Doma Group was initially focused on residential construction, before growing to become one of the largest multi-unit development and construction companies in the ACT. Doma Group is also the largest private hotelier in the ACT.

“A Canberra success story, Doma Group is now exporting its ideas and innovations beyond the territory’s borders,” Ms Cirson says.

Cirson says Doma Group is currently working on offices and residential projects in Newcastle – including a $45 million hotel – and is building a second ‘Little National’ hotel on Brisbane’s Southbank.

“Canberrans should all be proud of this second-generation Canberra construction company with an exciting model for hotel design that is now being replicated in other parts of Australia.”

Little National, together with the Florey Building at the Australian National University and the Vibe Canberra Airport Hotel, are competing for national recognition at the Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation & Excellence Awards, which will be held in Sydney on Friday, May 5.
