MGallery by Sofitel brand announced for Melbourne’s fashion capital

AccorHotels will operate the Chadstone Hotel Melbourne under the MGallery by Sofitel brand, set to open in 2019.

The new-build, 250 room hotel will sit alongside Chadstone’s hugeretail, dining and entertainment precinct and aims to further cement Chadstone’s status as the country’s number one fashion destination.

Reaching 13-storeys high with two restaurants, a lounge bar, day spa, fitness and meeting facilities, the hotel will become the tenth MGallery hotel in Australia and will join other Melbourne MGallery addresses including The Como Melbourne in South Yarra and Hotel Lindrum in Melbourne’s CBD.

Construction on the $130 million Chadstone Hotel Melbourne will commence in the first half of 2018 with the hotel scheduled to open in 2019.

Simon McGrath, chief operating officer of AccorHotels Pacific, said he was thrilled to be embarking on the project with the joint co-owners of Chadstone and that the development would contribute significantly to the evolution of the world-class precinct.

“We are delighted to be working on Chadstone’s new hotel development and are incredibly excited by the synergies it creates; bringing our high-end, boutique MGallery by Sofitel brand to Melbourne’s most luxurious fashion address.

“Chadstone has become a destination in its own right with more than 500 stores across retail, entertainment and dining and having an internationally recognised hotel brand within the precinct, coupled with the strength of our loyalty and distribution platform will make for a powerful mix.

“Melbourne has established itself as world-class tourist destination and has the infrastructure to support the 11 million tourists which come to the city annually. To now have a hotel in the city’s leading luxury retail hub is incredibly exciting and we look forward to the opportunities this will present our guests and our group.”

Vicinity Centres executive general manager, development, Carolyn Viney, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with AccorHotels through its MGallery by Sofitel brand to deliver superior boutique accommodation, dining, wellbeing, lifestyle, and conference amenities while also leveraging Chadstone’s premium customer experience across shopping, dining and entertainment.

“MGallery by Sofitel properties offer bespoke, unique consumer experiences that reflect local character which aligns with Chadstone’s brand and how we’re continuing to evolve the centre,” Ms Viney said.

Designed by leading Melbourne-based architects, Bates Smart, it will target a 5 Star Green Star rating using the new generation Green Star – Design/As Built v1.1 rating tool.
